Description
This is a photograph of a Nymphaea Red Flarewater lily that I took in a small pond at the Chicago Botanical Gardens in Glencoe, Illinois.
Red Flare Tropical water lily is a truly beautiful night bloomer with deep red flowers held nearly 12 inches above gorgeous, unique, reddish bronze leaves. Red Flare received much deserved recognition when it was named one of the Aquatic Plants of the Year in 2004!
This tropical waterlily has red flowers with reddish-brown foliage. It does well in small to medium pools. Plant height varies with water depth. Commonly referred to as "Water Lilies" these plants have adapted to living in a total water environment. The leaves of these plants are individually supported on leaf stalks called petioles. Water Lily blossoms vary greatly in color and size. They enjoy neutral to alkaline water and grow best in full sun. Planting should be done in water no cooler than 75 degrees F. If the water is too cool the plant will enter a dormant state.
