Artist's Description

This image of a Rudbeckia image was taken while visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden this past summer. This is just a small portion of a rather large grouping of these flowers. I liked how the light played on the head of the flower, highlighting the detail on the head.

Rudbeckia hirta, commonly called black-eyed-Susan, is a North American species of flowering plants in the sunflower family, native to the Eastern and Central North America and naturalized in the Western part of the continent as well as in China.

Rudbeckia hirta is one of a number of plants with the common name black-eyed Susan. Other common names for this plant include: brown-eyed Susan, brown betty, gloriosa daisy, golden Jerusalem, English bull's eye, poor-land daisy, yellow daisy, and yellow ox-eye daisy.

Rudbeckia hirta is an upright annual (sometimes biennial or perennial) growing 30100 cm (1239 in) tall by 3045 cm (1218 in) wide. It has alternate, mostly b...

About Bruce Bley

Bruce Bley

Hello my name is Bruce Bley. I am a retired art instructor. I taught in a public high school for 35 years. I enjoyed teaching students and helping them develop their own style of work. I have created works of fish, flowers, animals, and nature in general to give a person the opportunity to see nature close-up. I am an avid photographer and many of my...
