Artist's Description

This capture of a sunflower was taken while visiting a friends flower garden in Sterling, Illinois this past summer. I enjoy taking shots like this illustrating the interesting patterns nature has to offer plus the various colors in nature.

Helianthus L. (sunflower) is a genus of plants comprising about 52 species] in the Asteraceae family, all of which are native to North America. The common name "sunflower" also applies to the popular annual species Helianthus Annuus. This and other species, notably Jerusalem artichoke (H. tuberosus), are cultivated in temperate regions as food crops and ornamental plants.

The genus is one of many in the Asteraceae that are known as sunflowers. Some species also have additional shorter sca...

About Bruce Bley

Bruce Bley

Hello my name is Bruce Bley. I am a retired art instructor. I taught in a public high school for 35 years. I enjoyed teaching students and helping them develop their own style of work. It can be as simple as the color of a flower, the veins of a petal, and the beauty of it's stamen and pistils. I have created works of fish, flowers, animals, and nature in general to give a person the opportunity to see nature close-up. I am an avid photographer and many of my...
