Description
This photograph of a two bald eagle was taken a few days ago while visiting Seward Park in Rock Falls, Illinois. Up until the past few years, a person would not see bald eagles in our area, but with the change of climate that keeps the water open longer and the surrounding habitat it has allowed the eagles to return to the river where it more conducive for the eagles to find food. They now perch themselves in the large oak tress at the park and search for their next prey, perhaps a fish swimming in the water. When they have spotted a fish they quickly circle the area where the fish is and then dive to catch the fish in it's talons. They will then either return to the tree to eat their capture or feed on it along the banks of the river. On this particular day, I saw 3 male eagles in this tree and 4 eagles in another tree not to far away. I also was able to see two more eagles on the ice of the Rock River. It is nice to see a once endanged speices be able to breed in our area and live on again like many years ago. The bald eagle, with its snowy-feathered head and white tail, is the proud national bird symbol of the United States--yet the bird was nearly wiped out. I am happy to say that at least for us in my area of the country, they are are definately making a come back. I hope you have enjoyed this photograph and will share it with others.

It can be difficult to get a good shot of one eagle~ you've managed an AMAZING one of two! I love the way their bodies are forming a heart! (& I see you posted this just about 3 years ago) Happy Valentines Day Bruce!

Kym, I really don't know. I thought the females look different then the males. There was a young one with them also. I am glad you enjoyed this photograph. Thank you so much for the vote. I appreciate it.

Bruce, Nice new post! Cool, do you think this is a couple? Or do you think it is a Mother and child? I really like that you wrote a nice description about the Eagles in your area. I'm so happy that DDT didn't wipe all the Eagles off the earth. It's fun to see two of them together. Great capture! Voted and fav'd
